The Router and the routed
Even before I have reached, I am already leaving. Ever wondered why the net behaves as inconsistently as it does? Well there are a lot of technical reasons that I (and my type of people) can give you. And yes they all make sense (to us at least). I think I have found a new angle to this issue that looks beyond traditional traffic engineering for its solution.
While this post might sound grossly techie in nature all that the reader needs to know is that his internet connection does not perform consistently (irrespective of whether its the damn dial up on the road, or the sexy 100Meg broadband line in the office)
Destination INXS concert. Venue MMRDA Bandra east. Starting point home sweet home (HSH). So how did I find my way from HSH to MMRDA? Errr.... I was smart enough to know the way.... duh!! Did I stop at every signal and ask the traffic light / cop if I could go that way. No way!!! Did the entire route plan on my own.
Now lets switch to Mr. Packet. He like me originates from HSH. But does he know his way around? Not quite. Mr Packet has to ask every router on his way... "I am from HSH...need to go to MMRDA...what do I do next" and the router tells him. The router (like most traffic cops and signals) is inheriently inefficient. So how pray how is traffic engineering going to help? There is only so much that you can do to improve the efficiency of the router. Mr. Packet meanwhile has been multiplying.
The solution (being patented by me so bugger off) is in making the packet smarter and ensuring he knows his way around. It wont really address the inconistency...but what the heck.
Ahem.. am not available for tomato and egg throwing!
