Socceroos trip over Azzurri

Fellas the roos know what it feels like to be done in. My dad tells me that Milan used to me one of the places that had the slickest pickpockets and you could have your bank roll tucked into rolls of clothing and still be robbed by the refugees in the 90's. Dont think Grosso is a migrant or a refugee, but he sure has learnt some tricks!!

The game was dominated by Aussie possession and the dogmatic Italian defense. A day with chances galore ending in a result from fabricated football.

Luca Toni looks the part, is in all the right places, makes all the right moves, but just cant get the ball to do his bidding. His lack of form is probably going to cost the Italians dearly. Totti I thought made an impression once he came on, but wasnt able to do anything desicive, and his form continues to be worrying. Del Piero one of my all time favorites looks well past his prime and looks out of place in this tourney. With all the stars firing blanks where are the goals going to come from? Cant pretend to have an answer to that, but hope that the Italians can find the inspiration to make an impression on the cup. At this juncture the contest needs the Italians to play well. If they can play the part we could look forward to a keen contest between them and the Argentines in the Semis.

The Australians showed that they had practiced hard and were a well oiled and disciplined team. But the lack of finisihing skill and innovation in the box cost them dearly. Cahill and Viduka clearly seemed distressed by the weight of expectations on their shoulders. While Cahill was able to deliver against the Japs, Viduka had a largely forgettable cup. The silver lining for the beaten team is that the performance should focus more attention on the players and hopefully more of them start playing at better professional ball in the continent. But all said and done the Aussies can go back home with their heads held high!!!

Tried to stay up for the 2nd game (all for Sheva) but 25 mins and two post strikes and the eyelids gaveup the fight. The result was not very exciting and probably encouraging for the Italians.
