Navigating uncharted waters
Destiny. It just dosent get the message does it? Grand plans and noble thoughts one might foster, but the dice wont roll. Is there a shread of truth in this statement? Is the outcome of everyones actions all stictched together with some thread that converts the fabric of life to a robe designed for all? If so who is this mighty architect, and how can one possibly influence his drawings?
Dark stuff, all of this. My shadow wouldnt be surprised with this thought pattern, though he cant read the poor chap. This isnt written for him, but for you and me. So what inspires me to walk down this alley? All of you who said black spidey may get up and go away. Spidey (black or otherwise) and his franchise have left the building and you might follow suite. A concoction of "The Children of Hurin", "Freakonomics" and the latest version of "Pirates" you have to blame for what spews from my pen here.
If one is to drift from day to day in ones existance while yet trying to do what one belives to be noble and benificial to one and all; the theory might stand. Why do I say this? Is it because I believe that a drifter deserves to have his destiny at the mercy of those who choose to design? Dont the fundamental beliefs that govern ones response to a stimulus compensate for concious shape. Maybe. But where did those beliefs stem from? Were you born with them; unlikely. Isnt it more reasonable to guess that you unconciously imbibed these as you progressed along the journey called life. (Notice how I say you!). Did you inherit these from your folks and peers? Did they know about the legacy they were leaving you with or did they behave as just efficient carriers?
Finally is one strong enough to realise where destiny is taking one and apply course correction to go where desired?
Turin, son of Hurin aka "The black sword of Nargothrand" chose to be governed by the voice of his heart, or shall we say beliefs. This in itself is not a bad thing, and not something I oppose. But Turins destiny it is claimed was designed by Morgoth. So while he skipped from chapter to chapter in his life, doing the best that he could. Always choosing the option that seemed noble to him, little did he realise that he was only playing into the hands of Morgoth. Once he fully realised this it was too late. His destiny, you might argue was written by the actions of his fore fathers and his fate was to enact them.
Captain Jack Sparrow au contraire took nothing lying down. Even if all his grand plans came to nothing, his schemes were such that it was all supposed to be good business. No one could read his actions or thoughts, so no one could effectively plot to do anything with him. Seems like this stood him in good stead.
Two very different stories these and no reading this would not give you a clue about what each one of them is about. (Notice the lable dosent say review, though many of you may contest that discovery = review). The objective of this post, my good readers (and the bad ones for good measure) is to kick each one of us in our keesters and make us sit up and take notice. If after this we could perhaps up our periscopes and spy what destiny has in store for us, perhaps we might avoid by carefull navigation the shark infested waters that possibly lie before us. Of course turning hard is more likely to attract the sea monster to come up and swallow us, but we dont know that do we?

heavy stuff..and a classical debate...destiny..does it exist or it doesnt..? do we make our choices or are they made?
Are we really navigating the ship or is it a big design.
sparrow wanted to sail the seas till eternity...immortal. Are we all doing it anyways..unknowingly
what you don't believe (and notice i said you :)) is more dangerous that what you do...
we live, we play, we party, we think, we feel, we hope, we pray..why?
why know? will we know when we die..or will we have more questions because we sailing on...
all questions, no reasons..no answers.
On a lighter note..however if we reflect on our choices made in the past..we see the dots that join to now. If steve jobs had not dropped out of college for lack of funds and taken calligraphy classes by chance, would we have seen the fonts and designs as we see them now? On a wackier note...did he drop out for the millions who love their ipods...can we comprehend the whole pinball effect we cause.
why know...why ask...and why not?
